Wyzendale Prologue
Our story is ongoing and ever-evolving, narrated by the built spaces we design, the experiences we create, and the perceptions we dream up. It’s full of plot twists, interesting characters, and journeys that challenge our talent, ingenuity, and sometimes the very things we believe to be true.
Our story began in the spring of 2020. In the event you’ve deleted this time from your mental hardrive, it was challenging and disruptive for the world at large—to say the least. But for us, these changes created a state of calm and stillness which allowed us to get clear and find the intent behind the kind of company we wanted to create. For Wyzendale, this was the perfect time to get our story straight so we could begin crafting unique stories for the kinds of clients and partners we wanted to attract. We hit the phones. We hustled. We dug through the rubble and found those who were like minded, sharing our positive outlook and willingness to grind and build something new.
That’s the thing about design. You have an idea in your head about what a thing can be. Then it tells you what it wants to be. How you hear what it’s telling you is everything.
Our Name
Simply put, there are two abrasion tests to determine a textile's durability. The Wyzenbeek Test, commonly used in North America, takes two pieces of material and rubs them back and forth. The Martindale Test, commonly used in Europe takes two pieces of material and rubs them together in a figure-eight-like motion. Not only is our name, Wyzendale, inspired by these two tests, but so is the way we cultivate and nurture relationships.
Ours is an industry of ideas and relationships. And good ones are worth fighting for. We ideate with our clients. We agree and disagree with them. We push each other in service of unearthing the best idea, for the best outcome—an abrasion test of its own. By rubbing ideas and relationships together, we stress-test them, discovering their strengths and exposing their weakness. If the fabric holds up, we know we’ve got a good idea and we move forward. If not, we keep testing. We think the resulting relationships we forge and the stories we tell are stronger and more beautiful because of it.
